New Progressive Community in Prague

Ec Chajim holds inaugural Kabbalat Shabbat service and dinner at Blue Rose Hotel in Prague. 120 people attended including the Israeli Ambassador to the Czech Republic, Daniel Merron and his wife, President of the Czech Federation of synagogues, Tomas Kraus and his wife, representatives of the Abraham Geiger College, Rabbi Edward van Voolen and Professor Ralf Selig, representatives of the EUPJ, David Pollak and Jonathan Wootliff, members of the Ec Chajim Board, the President of EUPJ member community ZLU, Frantisech Fendrych, and many friends and members of the Prague Jewish community. The service was led by student rabbi David Maxa who was accompanied by his wife, Judita and nearly born first child! David Maxa delivered an uplifting sermon and Tomas Kraus delivered a fascinating account of the history of the Jewish community in the Czech Republic over the last 30 years. The event was also attended by a group of 30 young adults from the VJS Nord, a Jewish group of students from the North of Germany, who were on a 4 day cultural tour of Prague. Their presence livened up the proceedings, following dinner and speeches, with some enthusiastic singing and dancing.
