Rabbi Pauline Bebe Honoured

On Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at the Maayan Center, Rabbi Pauline Bebe of the Jewish Liberal Community of Île-de-France was invested as a Knight of the French National Order of Merit (Ordre national du Mérite). The insignia was presented by Rémy Schwartz, President of the Jewish Liberal Community of Île-de-France and Commander of the French National Order of Merit.
This distinction recognizes Rabbi Pauline Bebe’s lifelong commitment to the development of Liberal Judaism in France, her pioneering role as France’s first woman rabbi, and her outstanding intellectual, spiritual, and communal contributions. Through her teaching, writings, and leadership, she has helped shape a thoughtful, inclusive, and vibrant expression of contemporary Jewish life.
