Machane Zion in Germany

The Union of Progressive Jews in Germany and its youth department, UpJ Netzer, were proud to host the first international Netzer summer camp in Europe. Machane Zion was the biggest and by far the most special supper camp that WUPJ Netzer ever experienced and offered! In a first, they were able to bring together an Israeli delegation from the Jewish Agency for Israel from the evacuated north of Israel and other areas, as well as chanichot, chanichim, madrichot and madrichim (attendees and leaders) from Netzer Barcelona, Italy, Sweden as well as their own UpJ Netzer delegation. In total, around 110 participants embarked on an exciting adventure together in English.

It was a summer camp with many moving moments: each day was filled with lots of fun, joy and new friendships across borders!

We are grateful to Doron Almog, Chairman of the Executive of The Jewish Agency for Israel, and Shelley Kedar, Director of Connecting the Jewish People Unit at The Jewish Agency for Israel, for their visit.

In addition to the international summer camp, UPJ Netzer also hosted its own camp for 8 – 12-year-olds, which ended successfully after a wonderful week with 60 participants, including some from Canada.

We are thrilled that the Union of Progressive Jews in Germany and its youth department UpJ Netzer have organised two successful summer camp this year involving around 170 children and young people. It is wonderful to see our youth movement growing bigger and stronger from year to year!
